Before Books On the Internet
Books on the internet have certainly become known for something completely different than they were years ago. Not that I want to show my age, but I didn’t even have a computer in my house until I was thirty years old.
And what a happy day that was! I will never forget it.
But before then, when a person talked about “books,” they meant the kind you could hold, touch, and read by a lamp at night. They meant the kind of “books” you could get for free at the library. You know, the kind that was heavy to haul around, stacked up in the garage and gathered dust.
Now, of course, these kinds of books still exist. As I’m sure you know. And many still love them. Myself included.
The Many Benefits of Electronic, Digital Books
Today, books are also sold on the internet in digital format. These are known as “electronic books,” or e-books for short. Electronic books are cool for many reasons. Not only are they more affordable, but they also save trees!
And…
If you love to write books, you never need to worry about running out of inventory. Because they never, ever run out! Books on the internet are an incredible asset to the online entrepreneur.
The Ability to Link To Your Marketing Sites
So, what are some ways that digital books can help the online entrepreneur? I think the most significant benefit is that you can include links in your book. This is an incredible advantage.
Why?
Because it is so much more convenient for the reader to go straight to the reference right then and right there, with a physical book, most people will say, “I will look that up later.” But then they never do.
Nine times out of ten, they forget. Or at least, that’s my problem, for sure.
But by having the convenience of “click here” while reading books, the entrepreneur can send people to their communities, sales pages, and other products. It also gives them a chance to link to resources and references.
The Introvert’s Effective Way of Bringing People into Their Business
If you follow me for any time, you will soon realize I have a soft heart for introverted entrepreneurs. The reason is simple. I am one.
For years, I struggled with the recommendations of “going public.” I am just not one who likes to be the center of attention. Is hate too strong of a word? Getting on camera is like torture to me.
Electronic books give me an effective way to introduce people into my business while avoiding the camera. I don’t need to worry about making a mistake because if I do, I can easily correct it before anyone even knows.
There is no need to spend half the day fixing my hair, putting on makeup, going through my earrings, ironing the perfect outfit, etc. Don’t get me wrong. I have my girly days. But I would rather go out somewhere if you know what I mean.
Getting dressed up with nowhere to go is not a favorite of mine. Even if hundreds of people will see me. Or let me rephrase that – I especially don’t want hundreds of people to see me. It is not my favorite hobby to watch myself age on camera. But even when I was young, I wasn’t a “look at me” person.
I’m not knocking people who are. It is a good thing some people do like that. Just don’t let it be me.
Because of electronic books, it doesn’t have to be me. Thank goodness!
The Solution for Too Many Ideas
Another thing I love about book writing is that it solves another one of my entrepreneurial challenges—I always struggled with too many ideas.
Yes, that’s right. Asking me to narrow down my topics was not torture (like being on camera.) But it was frustrating like trying to decide who or what is most important in my life.
I could talk about all kinds of things. Forever. On paper.
But this was a huge problem when it came to choosing a niche. It is the sole reason it took me at least five years to choose one. I’m not kidding.
Well, the truth is that I did choose one. Then another. And another. This was a theme in my life. On and on it went.
Books solved this problem for me. If I have a new idea, I write a new book and tie it back to my main business. I can find all kinds of ways to do that.
By changing book topics, I can target different target markets, all of whom could benefit from my main business. I can also weed out the people I don’t want in my business.
Problems one, two, three, four, and five – all solved with books.
The Many Ways to Bring People into Your Business with Books
You can use books to bring people into your business in different ways. For one thing – they are like having your business card. Only better.
Not only will they give people info about your business, but you can say so much more than you ever could with a tiny business card. You can turn your “business card” book into a copywriting exercise.
For example, you can (and should) weave copywriting into everything you write.
This way, you can use words to build relationships and connect with people. You can use words to get them to know, like, and trust you. You can tell them stories in your books.
When they finish a book you wrote, they should feel like you are their friend. They should know and understand the struggles and challenges you have overcome. And all of the ways you have solved your problems with your new methods and ways of doing things.
The Responsibility To Help Others
Those new methods and ways of doing things tie right into your business—you know, the business that can help your customers or clients? I think that helping others solve problems that we have overcome is not only profitable but also a moral responsibility.
If we use every business opportunity to reach out and help others, not only are we doing good in the world, but a certain percentage of those people will return for more. They will want to know what else we have to offer. They will become curious; what else do we know? How else can we help?
Before books on the Internet, we needed to reach out and call people to get them into our business or pay for advertising. Of course, the best entrepreneurs still use all of those strategies.
But the point I am trying to make is that giving away or selling electronic books is just another effective strategy. The best part is that they are affordable to our customers.
Separating the Buyers from the Freebie Seekers
We can give them away for free, commonly called a “lead magnet.” Or we can sell them for a small, affordable price, which is known as a “low-ticket item” or a “tripwire.”
What is great about tripwires is that they weed out the buyers from the freebie seekers. If they are willing to pull out their credit card and make a purchase, no matter how small, then we have just won half the battle.
This means they, first of all, have a credit card. But it also means that they are willing and able to make purchases on the internet.
Think about it for a minute. If you had a list of people you collected by giving them something for free, and you had another list of people who purchased a $9.97 book from you, which list do you think is most valuable? The second one, of course.
Books on the internet are quick, easy, and simple ways to separate buyers from the lookers.
